Perspective and Perception

The paintings in this series are a continuation of “Spontaneous Deliberation” (see below), albeit on canvas. Because paint interacts with canvas in a different manner than on paper, and because I like to build up thin layers of paint to achieve a particular look, production time is lengthy for these works.

Juxtaposition and layering of geometric and expressive elements create ambiguous dimension, content, and perspective.

Spontaneous Deliberation

This series investigates pattern, space and structure. Technical and emotive aspects of paint application, color and form are also addressed. Geometric forms anchor expressive, gestural brushstrokes.

Up to this point I was spending 1-3 months from start to finish per painting. Here, established parameters such as size, surface (particle board or paper), and a simplified palette streamline and expedite the entire process.
